If you saw this post. You will know that we recently visited Madrid. As we were there for five days, we thought we would take the opportunity to visit nearby Toledo. Only half an hour train journey from Madrid, a quick stop in Toledo makes for a great day trip within a city break. What’s more, this little gem of a town is absolutely beautiful. A quintessential walled town known as a ‘city of three cultures’ due to its Jewish, Arabic and Christian influences. Wander the cobbled streets and check out the idyllic views of this historic centre rightly acknowledged as a UNESCO world heritage site. I definitely recommend it and I think the following photos will convince you to be fitting a trip into your itinerary too.
Getting there:
Head for Madrid Atocha station, trains depart to Toledo from 06:50 until 21.00 from €13. There are also buses but we opted for the train.
Mirador Del Valle
Now, the last thing we planned on our day in Toledo was to see this viewpoint, on the way back to the train station. PSA: this is not on the way back to the train station! It was t just a lil’ 45 minute walk that we hadn’t anticipated. But we went up for it anyway! I think you will agree the view is 100% worth it though and I can only imagine how incredible it would look at dusk.

I cannot, for the life of me remember which street this was taken on. To be honest though, every road you wander down in the historic centre of Toledo makes for a beautiful photo so snap away.

Catedral Primada Santa María de Toledo
Photo carefully taken over a fence that stops people who aren’t very important or not on paid guided tours from going any further. I think Cathedral architecture is often amongst the most impressive – this one did certainly not disappoint.

Monasterio de San Juan de los Reyes
A peaceful oasis in the gorgeous little city. It is well worth a visit to this unassumingly majestic gem with fabulous centre courtyard. If I remember rightly the entrance fee is super cheap and it is also included in the Toledo City Pass.

We think that there were graduation celebrations during our time in the City, hence the fabulous decorative additions.

View across Alcantarra Bridge

The train station is down at the bottom of the hill, wander up through the Moorish gates of the walled city and either hop on the escalators or take the stairs to reach the centre of town.
Thank-you, as always for reading. Have you been to Toledo? Will you be adding it to your bucket list? Let me know in the comments x

Toledo is one of my dream destinations and I really hope to get the chance to explore it one day, Abbie. Is it a good summer destination to spend a holiday there?
I hope you do too! I think it could be a good base for a holiday but for me I would prefer to stay closer to the coast and perhaps just visit for a day or two! x
