Where to go for Brunch in Leicester

in UK
Brunch Leicester - Clock Tower

Leicester, the city I have called home for over twenty years. Thus, I thought it would be apt to put together a post that features my little city and what better way than to combine that, than with one of my favourite things: Brunch. I mean we all have experienced a classic Sunday morning first world problem of where shall we grab breakfast/brunch, in the haze of trying to bat off that Monday morning dread. Well I’ve done the leg work for you, because whether you live in Leicester or are just visiting, here are my favourite brunch spots in the city (the following are all vegetarian friendly):

Kai

Brunch Leicester - Kai Pancakes

This ‘all day brunch’ spot in St Martins Square serves up a fabulous brunch/lunch menu featuring pancakes, shakshuka, Buddha bowls and French toast. We popped in here for breakfast (earlier in the year, hence the al fresco situation) and the pancakes were delicious!

Mrs Bridges Tea Rooms

Brunch Leicester - Mrs Bridges Tea Rooms

Stop by Mrs Bridges, for brunch or a cream tea after a busy day of shopping! Built in 1723 this quaint little cafe lies in the heart of Leicester’s unique and historical lanes area. We stopped by here with Jasmin and we were all very impressed. Myself and Josh went for full vegetarian breakfasts and Jasmin the hunters breakfast. The portions are huge and the bill for the three of us was so reasonable – it was just a shame we were too full for cake!

Delilah Fine Foods

Brunch Leicester - Delilah Fine Foods

This traditional delicatessen probably edges it as my favourite breakfast spot in Leicester. Housed in a wonderfully restored bank, Delilah is a terrific independent business selling all the best food and wine. Now the French toast in this picture is currently not on the menu (the lovely kitchen staff made it for me anyway) but a petition needs to be started to get it reinstated all year round!

UPDATE: JANUARY 2019 DELILAH FINE FOODS IN LEICESTER IS NOW CLOSED BUT THE BRANCH IN NOTTINGHAM IS STILL OPEN

Knight + Garter

Brunch Leicester - Knight & Garter

The Knight & Garter is a member of the ‘Beautiful Pubs Collective’ and honestly, I can see why. Aesthetically pleasing, a great menu and the best truffle infused scrambled egg! Josh opted for the Rancheros Fried Duck Egg and I went for the Truffled Scrambled Egg and Field Mushroom Brioche with hash browns, we couldn’t resist a side of freshly baked croissants and only wish we could have partaken in the ‘bottomless mimosas!’

So that brings me to the end of the where to brunch in Leicester round up. Have you been to Leicester? Are you also from Leicester? Where would you recommend for a lazy weekend brunch? Let me know in the comments!

I’ve never been to Leicester before but the pictures of these breakfasts is making me want to go just to try the food! Those pancakes look absolutely delicious! Pancakes are one of my favourite things to eat for breakfast but I’m no good at making them myself so it’s very rare I have them. I did have some delicious ones from ‘The Diner’ in London on Carnaby Street though which I’d highly recommend!
